The History of Orka

Two social workers,
one shared dream.

Orka Health & Wellness was founded by Alexis Bennett and Leah Pillsbury — both licensed independent clinical social workers (LICSW) — who dreamed of going into the therapy business together, then made it real.

Founded to open the door to care.

After dreaming and talking about going into the therapy business together, Bennett and Pillsbury — both LICSW — launched the virtual-based Orka Health and Wellness in September 2021, in response to the growing need for access to teletherapy.

What began as two clinicians and a shared dream is now a specialized team offering therapy, ADD/ADHD testing, and virtual nutrition coaching to individuals and families across Minnesota.

“To have the physical or mental energy to do something.”

The name says it all. Orka exists to help individuals and families find the energy to Do Something!

How we got here

The story so far

September 2021

After dreaming and talking about going into the therapy business together, Bennett and Pillsbury launched the virtual-based Orka Health and Wellness — a direct response to the growing need for access to teletherapy.

A specialized team

Orka grew to five LICSW therapists with deep specialties: supporting people with special needs (including autism and Down syndrome) and chronic illness, processing grief and loss, perinatal and postpartum support, and caring for caregivers and medical professionals — alongside anxiety, depression, social anxiety, perfectionism and burnout.

Beyond therapy

Their offerings reach further, too. A staff psychologist offers ADD/ADHD testing, and a registered dietitian provides virtual nutrition coaching and wellness for high-risk children, pregnant and postpartum moms, breastfeeding education, cooking for toddlers, tackling picky eaters, and helping families create healthy meals together.

The mission

Through it all, Orka exists to help individuals and families find — and have — the energy to “Do Something!”

“We want to help individuals and families find — and have — the energy to Do Something!”
